Two Special Operations Marines receive awards for actions in Africa gunfight https://thenewsrep.com/107296/two-special-operations-marines-receive-awards-for-actions-in-africa-gunfight/ 18Aug18 Two Marines serving with Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC), also known as “Raiders,” have been awarded medals of valor for their actions during a fierce firefight in 2017. The gunfight occurred in North Africa between the Marines and al-Qaeda fighters according to a spokesman for United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). The combat action event occurred during a 72-hour operation to assist, advise, and train local national partner military forces. AFRICOM did not disclose the location at which the firefight took place due to “classification considerations, force protection, and diplomatic sensitivities.” The Marines were engaged by al-Qaeda militants on February 28, 2017, what transpired was a “fierce fight against members of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb,” based off of an award citation that was released. Given that al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb operates in Algeria, Mali, Libya, Niger, and Mauritania; any one of these could have been where the battle took place. AFRICOM, spokesman Samantha Reho stated that the local national soldiers initially engaged the al-Qaeda attackers, killing one. The Marines eventually joined in, utilizing small arms to repel the assault when Al-Qaeda militants began a flanking them, before calling for air support. The Marines were forced to “return fire in self-defense,” given the circumstances, according to the statement. The citations noted that the Marines communications chief and assistant element leader “provided critical communications relay and ensured proper positioning of partner force elements.” Another Marine gave rapid medical aid to another Marine that was injured and when the helicopter arrived, assisted in loading him onto it; all of this was done under heavy enemy fire. The 2nd citation describes how a Raider aboard a helicopter sent for close air support (CAS) engaged enemy combatants from the air while simultaneously directing crew members. The al-Qaeda fighters on the ground returned fire with efficiency as the soldier manning the crew served machine gun on board was struck in his foot by a round. The Marine on board “took control of the M60 and continued to suppress the enemy while treating the wounded gunner. He then accompanied the helicopter during the casualty evacuation of the Marine Raider and a second casualty later in the day, and conducted two re-supply deliveries all under enemy fire,” according to the citation. According to AFRICOM, the local national soldiers under the guidance of the Marine operators were able to repel the enemy assault and secure the battle space before they assessed that “two enemies were killed.”

Successful applicants have the following time limitations on completing the training program: 1 month from day of processing to complete both recruit training (Boot Camp) and School of Infantry (SOI). 3 months from day of processing to complete Marine Special Operations School (MSOS) and Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB). A virtual boot has 3 months total to complete the entire training program. A virtual veteran who goes straight to MSOS has 3 months to complete the entire training program. Failure to reach each/any of these time limits will result in the candidate undergoing Entry Level Separation (ELS). A candidate's time limitation for the next stage does not decrease for early completion of current stage, they merely have longer to complete the next stage. i.e. completion dates do not change. The quicker a candidate completes recruit training & SOI, the more time they will have to spend completing MSOS and/or FMTB. Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsmen are additionally required to complete FMTB within the MSOS time limitation, upon completion of the MSOS course. Example 1: Mr Lawrence passes his recruitment interview, and is processed in to the unit (Accepted) on 01Jan20. Recruit Lawrence has until 01Feb20 to complete recruit training and the School of Infantry, until 01Apr20 to complete Marine Special Operations School. If Recruit Lawrence completes recruit training and SOI in 2 days, his time limit for completing MSOS is still 01Apr20. Example 2: Sergeant Lawrence transfers in to the unit from his former realism unit on 01Jan20. As he enters directly into the Marine Special Operations School, Sergeant Lawrence has until 01Apr20 to complete MSOS. Activity: The 4th MRB forums are the unit's only official form of communication. All training program candidates are expected to stay informed of unit updates, procedural changes, and unit news by use of the relevant forums. A candidate in the training program who fails to attend the forums for 3 months will result in an Entry Level Separation (ELS).

Concentrate with the commercial stuff first, than the interesting training stuff etc. I fully appreciate it going up on yours (& first), but it'll help the unit many times over if it's on the unit channel, especially when Spencer gets back and starts posting his own stuff too.

Communications Chief is a Critical Skills Operator (not an SOO) is not a leader (in the context you mean it here) Element Leader is a Critical Skills Operator (not an SOO) is a Leader Operations Chief is a Critical Skills Operator (not an SOO) is not a leader (in the context you mean it here) Not shown, but to make clear: Team Leader is a Special Operations Officer (and is literally the only SOO billet here) is a Leader Team Chief is a Critical Skills Operator is a Leader Special Operations Capability Specialist (SOCS) Combat Support Expertise Intelligence Explosive Ordnance Disposal (or EOD) Fire Support Communications Canine Operators Additionally: Only Team Leaders are commissioned officers, thus only Team Leaders are SOO. All other Marine Raiders are enlisted non-commissioned officers and thus CSO. Only CSO & SOO are Marine Raiders/MARSOC, all other billets are US Navy or USMC (or US Army > "aviation"). Only Marine Raiders get the Marine Special Operators Insignia. SARCs are not Marine Raiders, and not even Marines. They're Navy SOF. SOCS are not Marine Raiders, they're specific specialised MOS Marines assigned to support Marine Raiders. SOCSS/CSS are not Marine Raiders, they're support Marines assigned to support Marine special operations. SARCs undertake a Navy equivalent of ITC, basically aligned to what the SEALs undergo, and attach to the Marine Raiders with that skillset. SEAL or Raider destined, there's no difference in training. We simulate that by putting them through the same 4th MRB ITC course (for ease). SOCS undertake a SOF Training Course (which is shorter than ITC, but covers similar criteria in less detail, to a lesser level of expectation), SERE, and advanced SOF-specific MOS training, and attach to the Marine Raiders at team, company, and battalion levels with that skillset. We simulate that by putting them through the same 4th MRB ITC course (for ease). SOCSS/CSS undertake SOF combat skills training (basic), and attach to Marine special operations with that skillset. We don't currently have these billets, so have no training program to support it.
